Swans Ready To Rumble....In Rochdale!!!

Paul Connor returns to play against his former side for the first time tonight, as Kenny Jackett's men look to correct their opening day false start. Brian Flynn paid £35k for Connor last March and the ex-Stoke striker has targeted a 20-goal return this year - starting tonight at Spotland.

Spotland has been a successful hunting ground for the Swans in recent times. Last year, a rare goal from loan forward Daniel Nardiello stole all three points, while two years ago, this fixture was crucial to the Swans future as they battled to avoid relegation. Kevin Nugent and Marc Richards scored either side of half-time to give Swansea a crucial three points, that eventually contributed to their safety from the threat of the Conference.

Last season, Rochdale had a near miss with relegation themselves, flirting around the bottom positions for most of the season. In March 2004, the Dale came to the Vetch and frustrated their opponents by holding out for a 1-1 draw. Since then, manager Parkin has made some major squad changes and is attempting to bring a number of youth players into the side. Parkin blames this for their opening day defeat at Scunthorpe, claiming that the experienced players didn't do enough to aid their younger colleagues.

Rochdale will be hoping that skipper Gary Jones will prove himself fit for tonight, after being ruled out of the season opener with a foot injury. Northern Irish winger Pat McCourt also looks like returning to the side, while ex-Swansea target Paul Tait is likely to start up front.

Kevin Austin is likely to replace Stuart Jones in the Swans defence, as the debutant returns from a one-game suspension. Apart from the return of Austin, Jackett is set to name an unchanged line-up for tonight's clash, although Gary Fisken could well make his first appearance from the bench.

Many are predicting a draw for this one (although for some reason Footy MAD reckon that Rochdale are going to win this one 2-0...hmmm), which probably looks like the most realistic result judging by Saturday's performance. Although Rochdale are unlikely to offer the same quality as Northampton, tonight's clash will still be extremely tough as the Dale are also attempting to put their opening day defeat behind them. However, if Swansea can improve on individual errors and finally hit the back of the net, then perhaps a thrid consecutive Spotland victory could be on the cards.....
