Match Preview Swansea City v Brentford

Last updated : 12 August 2008 By Tycoch Jack

After our 2-0 defeat against Charlton last Saturday, the Swans hope to get back to winning ways tonight when they play Brentford in the 1st round of the Carling Cup. Roberto Martinez looks certain to make the most of his large squad tonight in a game he certainly wants to win. Speaking to the official site, Roberto said:

"Our attitude is to go out and win every game, it's great that we are playing at home and we need to impose ourselves. There are always circumstances and situations that motivate you in each round. But we will look to win every game but also look to get past the first two rounds if we can."

"But I don't want to look too far ahead in the Carling Cup. We have a great home tie and we need to focus on finding the solutions to problems that Brentford could possibly cause us."

The Carling Cup has always been a great opportunity for us, but every time you have three games in a week the effort and demands are huge. We have to share that around and that is why we have such a big a squad. It doesn't bother me who plays. This squad should go into the first round of any competition with the strength and confidence to get through it."

Swans are definitely without Gary Monk tonight after the defender was sent-off against Charlton last Saturday, and is banned for this game. However, this gives Roberto the perfect opportunity to bring in Albert Serran in his place, after the Spanish defender impressed in pre-season and was unlucky not to get his league debut against the Addicks.

Jason Scotland is hoping to play a full part in tonight's game, as he aims to get back to full fitness. Speaking to the official site, Scotland said: "I'm hoping to come through 60, 70, 80 or maybe even 90 minutes, if I can do that and I can perform to a high level then, hopefully, I will be knocking on the door for the game on Saturday. That is my target, but obviously we will have to see how tonight goes first."
