Lee Trundle's 12th goal of the season brought the Swans a 1-0 home victory over lowly Darlington, with a spectacular overhead kick four minutes before half time settling the issue.

The goal came after the Swans attacked down the left flank. Leon Britton crossed the ball in from the left, the Darlington defence failed to head the ball clear. Trundle put the ball into the bottom left-hand corner of the goal with an acrobatic bicycle kick.

Trundle's one-man show lit up a dull game in which the home side dictated the play for large periods of the match.

Although the home side enjoyed the lions share of possession they had little penetration up front apart from the constant threat from the Swans number ten.

In a game dominated for long periods by the Swans midfield, Darlington rarely threatened the home side's goal. The Quakers best chance came in the 87th minute when a misdirected pass fell to Barry Conlon in the box, who forced a superb close-range save from Swans keeper Roger Freestone.

The 45 away fans who made the long trip down will be wondering if they'll still playing at third division level next season after an ineffective away performance.

Swansea manager Brian Flynn was happy to grind out a victory: "It was a tight game, but I think we deserved the victory." Flynn reserved special praise for Freestone: "Roger's save was vital. He didn't have a lot to do but his concentration level was very high. That save was as good as a goal." Darlington manager David Hodgson said: "I don't think we deserved all three points, but I thought we did enough in the second half to claw something out of it.

"The main difference between the two sides was Lee Trundle. He looked like the only player on the pitch capable of scoring.

"Roger Freestone made a great save and when you look at the table the teams at the top are the ones who score from those chances and the ones at the bottom are the ones who don't."
