Swansea earned a valuable point in their quest for Nationwide League survival but left Nene Park aggrieved they had not ended a year long sequence without victory on their travels.

Brian Flynn's reshaped line-up included their 19th debut this season, with Roberto Martinez joining Kevin Nugent and Lenny Johnrose as recent arrivals.

It was Nugent who sparked their gritty performance with a 16th minute header from a Leon Britton cross but the same player also had what Flynn believed was a perfectly good 28th minute strike disallowed.

At least one of the Swansea players remarked: “We scored two perfectly good goals” and Flynn said: “I am disappointed it was not allowed to stand. The linesman who gave it was 45 yards away.” But Flynn took heart from the performance which followed last week’s win over Lincoln, the result leaving them four points adrift of Boston and Bristol Rovers.

Diamonds have lost further ground on leaders Hartlepool but still have a healthy cushion from the pack behind them and manager Brian Talbot said: “We will keep battling away with what we have got here.

“It is in our own hands. It the last 20 minutes we could not get the winning goal which maybe our possession merited.” Nugent headed Swansea in front with his second goal in three games, the former Leyton Orient striker directing his 16th minute header past Billy Turley.

However, Turley then made amends with a crucial block from Johnrose who was in the clear.

Diamonds lacked the sort of fluency which has made Nene Park such a fortress over the last 18 months but they could still have turned around level if Onandi Lowe's stinging 20-yard shot had not fallen just the wrong side of Roger Freestone's left-hand post.

Lowe offered most threats to the visitors goal but when the equaliser came with 19 minutes left it was top scorer Paul Hall's 12th of the campaign, the pint-sized attacker nodding in a Marcus Bignot cross.
