Tate missed last weekend`s 1-1 draw at Doncaster as he served a one-match ban for accruing five bookings while skipper Monk was sidelined with a calf strain.
He will be given as much time as possible to shake off the problem but should he not make it then vice-captain Tate will take back the captain`s armband from Ashley Williams, who led City out at the Keepmoat Stadium.
Albert Serran or midfielder-turned-defender Kemy Agustien, who enjoyed time at the back against Doncaster, will again step in for Monk should he be forced to watch from the stands.
