Target Practice For Swans Ahead Of Harriers Match

Last updated : 10 September 2004 By Richard Evans
This time last season, Swansea were sitting on a bundle of goals, scoring an average of three goals per game. Twelve months later and new boss Kenny Jackett would probably give his right arm for the same sort of goal-scoring return, after Swansea's start has seen them score just five times in their opening seven games. Only relegation-placed Kidderminster and Chester can boast a worse goal-return in League Two and after last weekend's defeat at Yeovil, Jackett decided that something had to be done to address this problem.

Had Swansea been wearing their goal-scoring boots last Saturday
Will Trundle add to his tally this weekend?
, then they would probably have come away from the match with a darn sight more than a 1-0 defeat. Particularly in the first half, the Swans squandered a whole host of chances, which seems to be a growing trend amongst performances so far this year. Paul Connor and Adrian Forbes have yet to hit the back of the net, while Kevin Nugent has scored just once so far this season - highlighting the need for some morale-boosting practice.

As a result, Kenny Jackett and Kevin Nugent have taken the strikers away for two and a half days of intensive target practice and are hoping that this may reap rewards in Saturday's fixture against lowly Kidderminster. Jackett is also confident that once the balls begin to hit the back of the net, the goals will flow freely for some time to come.

One local betting office is offering 9/1 for Paul Connor to score first against Kidderminster - a bet that may well prove a steal come kick off on Saturday. Nevertheless, Swansea supporters won't mind who scores the goals...as long as they are scored!!
