Swansea getting better - Rodgers

"We are showing some real good signs at the moment," said Rodgers.

"The point could be absolutely vital for us. It's the mark of the top teams and we feel that week by week and day by day we are getting better."

Swansea closed the gap on second-place Cardiff - who occupy the last automatic promotion place - to three points following their first away draw of the season.

The draw brought an end to a run of four consecutive away wins in the Championship, but the Swans have not lost on the road since the 3-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest on 25 September.

They are now five points off leaders Queens Park Rangers, while lead the chasing pack of headed up by Derby County, by three points.

"I said to the players that this is a game where you don't want to look back having played well but not got something from the game," added Rodgers.

"I think we showed our mentality as a group today and that was the most pleasing thing.

Rangel pleased with rare goal

"We had to be patient and keep going and thankfully we showed that mentality and sport to keep going and it got us a wonderful goal.

"A point away from home is a good point and could be critical for us later on."

Goal scorer Rangel says he was pleased to get his fourth Swansea goal, and first since March 2009, but focused on the bigger picture.

"To be fair it was a good goal but the most important thing is at least we got a goal as Doncaster is a difficult place to come," said the Spaniard.

"To get a point shows our character which is what we need in these kind of games and in this division.

"We're still third, getting one point is important, but it's a long season so we have to keep going now."
