Swans duo close to signing deals

On Williams, Rodgers said: "At 26 years of age he is at a real good age now to extend that [deal] and keep him here.

"[Angel] came to me and said he was happy and loving being here and wants to get something sorted out on this deal which is great news."

Williams signed a four-year contract in 2009 keeping him at the Liberty Stadium until 2013. But the Swans are keen to extend that for at least another year.

Despite Swansea missing out on promotion last season Williams attracted interest from the Premier League, especially as helped the club record a record number of clean sheets in the Championship.

And Williams and defence partner Garry Monk helped goalkeeper Dorus de Vries go six straight matches without scoring a goal.

For that reason Rodgers has been actively chasing Williams' signature.

"It was something I felt it was important for us to do as a football club," insisted Rodgers.

"He has obviously got a couple of years to run on his deal. Him and Garry Monk are the best centre halves at this level.

"I'm certainly hoping it's nearing an end towards that contract. He's been offered it.

I want to keep the best players here

Brendan Rodgers

"I think all the financial stuff has been agreed apart from one or two minor details. But I'm hopeful that will be sorted out sooner rather than later."

Rodgers is also keen for Rangel to stay. He signed a one-year contract extension before the start of the season after being linked with a move to Blackpool.

"Angel Rangel, again a player who I want to keep because I want to keep the best players here," said Rodgers.

"It shows he is happy with the progress we are making here and obviously now up to the club to secure that."

Darren Pratley contract situation is less certain.

Asked if there was any update on Pratley, Rodgers said: "Nothing at all."
