Ricketts Earns First Welsh Cap

Swansea full-back Sam Ricketts earned his first Welsh Cap this evening, as he took his place in the Welsh back four for their friendly against Hungary. A number of drop-outs and injuries forced new manager John Toshack to name a much depleted starting line-up for his first ever game in charge, giving debutant Sam Ricketts his first run-out in his new adopted country's shirt.

Ricketts was employed as left wing-back in an adopted 3-5-2 formation, with Craig Bellamy and Robert Earnshaw leading the line for Wales. The Swans full-back put in a solid performance that will hopefully ensure a re-call in March for Wales' next World Cup qualifiers, as the Welsh won 2-0 courtesy of two goals from Craig Bellamy.
