Player Ratings for Worcester Friendly

Last updated : 18 July 2004 By Richard Evans

First Half Team:

Murphy 6 – Almost nothing to do. Claimed one dangerous ball well but distribution still dodgy.

Austin 6 – Built like a powerhouse…very similar to QPR’s Danny Shittu. Will scare the living hell out of Third Division right wingers and had little influence in first half. Dangerous from set pieces with height.

Monk 7 – Controls the back line well but occasionally gets caught by making rash decisions. Very tired by about 75 minutes and silly mistakes began to creep in but that must be expected as this stage of pre-season. Looks a born leader.

Tate 7 – Looks a little bit heavier on his feet since the summer. Still capable, making very few errors. Solid.

Ricketts 7 – Solid at back and a threat on attack. Final ball occasionally weak as full-back tired but impressive overall.

Fisken 6 – Not as impressive as expected. Played very defensive role but lost possession on numerous occasions.

O’Leary 7 – Reasonably solid throughout. Excellent positional sense in first half (central midfield) and decent distribution. Pretty solid at back in second half.

Britton 7 – Showed some of the old skills and was a constant threat on right. Missed a couple of goal-scoring opportunites.

Robinson 6 – Demonstrated a few sparks of brilliance but on the whole very quiet.

Forbes 8 – Fantastic work rate and very dangerous in and around the box. Decent awareness and surprisingly good in the air for a small man, should perhaps have made more at least one of his chances.

Connor 6 – Fought hard but starved of any decent service. Unable to get on the end of any of the crosses from the right.

Second Half Squad:

Willy Gueret
Willy Gueret
Gueret 6 – Could do little about goal. Hardly anything to do but came and claimed a few dangerous crosses with ease. Unable to judge on such a performance.

Davies 6 – Youngster grew in stature as game progressed but was unable to stifle the majority of Worcester’s attacks down left.

Jones 6 – An average performance, never really put under any major pressure. Still a lot to learn and gave possession away all too easily.

Maylett 6 – Didn’t make much of a lot of possession. At times linked well with forwards but should have shown Worcester’s poor full back a clean set of heels on more than one occasion. Still very dedicated and made a nuisance with his pace.

Martinez 7 – Unsung hero once more, pulled the strings from his defensive role. Decent distribution and back to his old ways.

Corbisiero 8 – Very impressive, dedicated performance. Could be knocking on the door of the first team based on this performance. Good awareness and range of passing for someone so young.

Thomas 6– Spurned few decent opportunities and appeared low on confidence again. To be fair, he was played out of position on the left, but still kept himself available throughout.

Nugent 7 – A surprise appearance from the assistant manager showed he still has awareness. Movement caused Worcester problems and linked up well with Oli. Constantly aiding the younger players and was a nuisance throughout the half. – gaining a deserved goal.

Oli 8 – Came on and gave the Worcester defence a different sort of attack to deal with. Pacy, strong and iron-willed, took both goals well. First showed he has ability and now must prove consistency. Although playing against lower league opposition, third division defenders will find it difficult to defend against his pace.
