Dobie has struggled to command a first team start with The Swans - making just five starts and four substitute appearances since his move to the Liberty Stadium on free transfer from Queen Of The South last May.
"I'm a fan of his and we have asked about his availability, and it is possible he could come here," said McGhee.
"He's the type of player who is different from the type of strikers we have here already."
