Duo behind Rodgers

Coach Alan Curtis and defender Ashley Williams are backing Brendan Rodgers to enjoy a successful tenure as Swansea manager. Former Watford and Reading boss Rodgers agreed a 12-month rolling contract at the Liberty Stadium on Friday and Curtis, who briefly took charge of first-team affairs with Colin Pascoe following Paulo Sousa's departure, is happy with the appointment. "We're really looking forward to Brendan," he told the Evening Post. "He's briefly outlined his principles of the game, what he's looking for in training and from what I've heard I think he'll dovetail perfectly into the club." Williams feels the presence of a new manager will add a customary edge to the Swans' pre-season work. "As soon as the new manager comes in, everyone naturally raises their game," he told Wales Online. "I'm sure this week's training will be a lot sharper. We need to start building towards the start of the season and show him we can be in his starting XI."
