Swansea blasted their League of Wales opponents away in a dominant victory at the Oval. Swans manager Kenny Jackett chose to rest a number of first team players, for a tie that could have been viewed as a potential banana skin, despite the opposition's poor recent form.

Jackett opted to rest numerous first team players, including Trundle, Connor, Gueret, Gurney, Forbes and new Welsh International Sam Ricketts. Brian Murphy retained his place in goal, with Alan Tate, Stuart Jones, Garry Monk and Ijah Anderson starting in defence. A young forward line of Chad Bond and Mark Pritchard was supported by a midfield consisting of Gary Fisken, Antonio Corbisiero, Leon Britton and Brad Maylett.

Swansea made the perfect start, when after just 40 seconds, young prodigy Chad Bond finished superbly from outside the area - giving the keeper no chance with a perfect finish into the bottom corner.

Just moments later, a Caernarfon defender turned a cross past his own keeper after being put under pressure from Garry Monk, before Gary Fisken's rebounded shot fell to Mark Pritchard, who maintained his cool and gave the Swans a 3-0 half time lead.

Swansea continued to dominate after the break and added a fourth when Brad Maylett set up Ijah Anderson after a skillful run. Pritchard added his second, and Swansea's fifth, after collecting sub Andy Robinson's through pass and cooly slotting home past the oncoming keeper.

The visitors had several other chances to add more, but a combination of poor finishing and good goalkeeping denied them on numerous occasions - with Mark Pritchard coming closest with a handful of missed efforts for his hat-trick.

Swansea now progress to the semi-finals of the competition with TNS, Wrexham and Bangor City - with Cardiff knocked out last night by the latter. Jackett has made his thoughts quite clear about this competition, claiming he "wants to win it" and this will come as no suprise seeing as the prize money for the title is around the £100k mark. All in all a strong and unsuprising victory against poorer opponents....potential banana skin avoided!
