Boston United Chase Maylett

Reports in two local Boston papers suggest that Swansea have allowed Steve Evans to open negotiations with Brad Maylett. Evans is apparently looking to strengthen his squad prior to next week's transfer deadline and Kenny Jackett is willing to offload him from the wage bill for nothing.

Maylett initially joined Swansea on a month's loan from Burnley in 2002/03, before signing on a free transfer in the following summer. After scoring a hat-trick on his debut against Bury in August 2003, a bout of injuries caused Maylett to lose form severely and his inconsistency has particularly frustrated both management and fans alike.

The winger has struggled to fight his way into the first team all season and has found himself down the pecking order, behind such players as Adrian Forbes and Leon Britton. It appears that Maylett's goal against TNS last Wednesday could prove to be his last in a Swansea shirt, as perhaps Kenny Jackett is looking to free up some money on the wage bill to bring in some targets of his own.
