A Message To Mr Jenkins...

Swansea have missed out on yet another primary target, mainly due to the comments made to the media by Chairman Huw Jenkins. It is understood that Brentford submitted an 11th hour bid for Darren Pratley when they were made aware of his availability by comments from the Chairman, boasting that the transfer of Darren Pratley was a "done deal". Brentford subsequently nabbed the talented Premiership midfielder.

This is not the first time this summer that Jenkins has got involved in transfer dealings, only for comments made in the media to back-fire in his face. But why on earth has he not yet learnt from his mistakes?!!!!!!!!

Lets put one thing straight. First of all, this in no way meant to be a criticism of the way that Mr Jenkins has run the club. In the last few years, we have been dragged from the brink of relegation, to League One football in a brand new stadium, being watched by attendances around five times bigger than when he took over...and the Chairman has played a big role in this success.

However, it is extremely difficult to look at Jenkins' recent comments without criticism. Whether these have just been a ploy to put bums on seats, they are meant to signal the club's ambition (which we already know) or they are just a mistake, no-one can know for sure. Nevertheless, supporters are beginning to grow weary of the same mistakes being made again and again.

Information coming from other clubs has also raised eyebrows regarding Mr Jenkins' professionalism in transfer dealings. The situation involving Lee Johnson appears to have been completely different to the Chairman's account, whilst Jenkins was reduced to petty name calling in the Grant Holt affair.

What cannot be criticised is Jenkins' love for the club and perhaps this is where the problem lies. He needs to differentiate between Huw Jenkins the Chairman and Huw Jenkins the supporter. Yes, it is great to hear that the Swans are tracking so and so....but even greater is the news that the club has actually signed that target.

This is not a cry of discontent at the Chairman's general running of the club, merely a call to leave the squad management and transfer dealings to the manager. We understand that this is a major learning curve for everyone at the club - Swansea City is growing into a new era - but please LEARN!!!
